In the "Home Recording" Book, on Day 26: Automation Envelopes it reads (for the Slide Guitar Track): 7. At the point where the play cursor crosses the pan envelope, click once. The inserts a node. (This is my Marker 3 at 1 min and 33 sec.) (I've left the Pan Envelope open and soloed the Slide Guitar Track.) Then it instructs you to pan right and then left toward the end of the song using shift-drag. Try as I might, a click would not insert a Node at Marker 3. I finally used "shift + click" and a node was inserted. Can you please check attached and tell me if this all looks correct and if "shift + click" is the correct way to insert a node??? Thank you :-)

You can determine what happens on single click in the preferences. The page is Editing Behavior -> Envelopes. The option you might want to change is "Clicking an envelope:" There are two choices ("Adjusts envelope segment" and "Adds point"), shift+click will perform the one you didn't choose for simple click. I can't tell you which is default on a fresh Reaper install, sorry.

Thx G, I took a screenshot of the Envelope Preferences before (I thought) I started fiddling with it and it's set on: Clicking an envelope: Adjust envelope segment But I can't be 100% sure that's the default setting either. Thanks though, I've found it and changed it and everything's cool :-)
