I think this is what i'm looking to do? I want previous recorded audio to be deleted when I record on the same track over it. Ive got way to many gigs sitting around of garbage, and not once have I ever gone back and pulled old recorded files. Anyone know where to change this setting of saving the audio recorded over? Adam, I do not recommend doing this at all. If you want to clear up some space, clear out and delete unused audio regions from sessions, but destructive recording is a REALLY bad idea, IMHO.
Yeah, no destructive! Once you are done recording and you have what you want, consolidate the regions and go to the list of files to the right of the edit window and select "clear- unused files" then "clear selected" Joz
I use destructive mode a lot, but that's because only I use my studio so I have the final say over what's a 'good' and 'bad' take. If I worked with clients I'd keep everything until the end of the session - wouldn't fancy telling the guitarist that he'd just recorded over his favorite take. At the end of the session, remove the unused audio/midi and Save Session Copy In ...( method well documented here!) I do, however, tend to not use destructive mode when I'm half way down a bottle of wine
Reasons not to use Destructive Record mode except for transfers (archiving): a) No undo or record cancel b) It's like playing with a loaded gun... you will accidently erase something. Unlike the gun, there is no safety mechanism. c) Disk space is cheap and it's simple to remove/delete unused regions and playlists to clean up unwanted takes. d) You can't punch in - which is the usual method of fixing a performance.
