I had posted earlier about a problem that, when trying to record on a single channel, my recording was picking up and recording all of the already recorded tracks as well I seem to have solved the problem with my device settings. I was originally setting these for direct audio in. I tried ASIO, but as I record to the computer via line in (and a mixing desk) the only available inputs were mic inputs. So that didn't work I re set for WASAPI (Windows 7/vista experimental, and was able to set record for line in It seems to have solved the problem (just in case others are having like difficulties) My computer was never designed solely for music production. I work on Vista (what a crappy system) and don't even have firewire inputs May now be the time for a new 'puter? :) and windows 7 :) and multipleinputs? :) Whatcha fink? Any suggestions? What about a Synergy? Dont forget, Christmas is just around the corner :)

You might not necessarily need a new computer but from all that I hear, ditching Vista would be a good idea (I'm on XP still). Also, it depends on what you wanna do, whether you need a multichannel card. Although not having to plug in and out things constantly is a good thing. If you compo doesn't have a firewire input it must be quite old. Maybe a thought too. Lots of RAM are not wrong either. At least with Win7. -Data

Kinda like Mr Data I am on an older comp using XP and it just has been rock solid with Reaper for over 4 years. I am one of those, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guys. I dread the day this baby gives up and I have to start over (but I do back everything up like crazy). That said, I tried to help a buddy with his Vista system and just had nothing but struggles. Perhaps there are others out there using Vista that can give advise based on their experience. As far as multi in, right now I am using a Delta 1010LT soundcard which gives me 8 channels of simo recording using an old analog mixer, and 3 different outputs for mixing which is really handy. Again, it works great, but it seems like not very many new computers come with open PCI slots (all are PCI express), so I imagine when the time comes for a new comp, I will start over with firewire which also means a new interface (oh well, it's only money). Not sure this is helpful, but just sharing for what it is worth.
