Delay Issues When Overdubbing in reaper

My Computer has got a huge delay (latency) issue when im recording in reaper i've tried all diffrent settings in the programe but can't seem to find a solution any tips ?

Welcome to the forums! Even if you have tried every setting I have to ask, do you use ASIO drivers and have you selected them in options->preferences->audio->device ?

Im just using the internal sound card and the line / mic input on my laptop?

I take that you don't use ASIO4ALL with your onboard soundcard. No wonder there's lots of latency then. Music production software is not supposed to be used with onboard soundchips, one reason is that they don't come with low latency ASIO drivers. ASIO4ALL wraps your existing driver into an ASIO environment and reduces its latency this way as a workaround. Download and install it and select ASIO in Reaper's preferences->audio->device menu.

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than $1 worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production. The cheap components and drivers will give you lots of delay (latency), too. #1 Rule of Recording: You MUST replace the built-in soundcard. Here's a good guide and tested suggestions:
