For every video you put on a DVD, there is always a "Chapter 1" (but it may be called something else, like Chapter 00:00:00). This is just the video entry point. Any extra chapters that you put in are only for your convenience. So, if you don't want to put in chapters, then don't do it (and don't worry about it).

I use CCE & Spruce Up. After encoding with CCE, I import the audio and video into Spruce Up. I end up with 1 chapter only, and there is no need to specify this, it does it on its' own. I think there is always a mimimum of 1 chapter. Hope that helps. HomerJ :)

For DVD Maestro, you will have to drop Chapter 1 into the First Play field to ensure your authored DVD begins playing after inserting it into your set top DVD player. I've been extracting chapters from the VOBs using chapter extractor and importing them into DVD Maestro. However, I only connect chapter 1 to the first play field. After the DVD is authored and burned, I can still skip ahead chapter by chapter if I want to. Without any chapters in your authored DVD, you will have to fast forward through your entire movie to get the to next point you want to view if you want to resume viewing the DVD from the last point you were at.

Of course, this applies to if you remove the DVD from your player and want to pick up the movie from the point you were last viewing. If you pause the movie and come back, I believe it will allow you to continue from where you paused. Doesn't your country sell rewriteable DVD's? (i.e. DVD-RW or DVD+RW).
