Hello again --- you may remember a few weeks ago I asked if anyone knew of a decent microphone for under $200. Instead of getting laughed off the forum, I actually got some very useful suggestions. Thank you to all who wrote. Now the bad news: After work today, I went and bought a brand spankin' new Rode NT1-A --- $200 cash out the door. Took it home, set up the little shock mount, fired up the G4, and grabbed my acoustic guitar. I record-enabled a track, and...no signal. After double-checking all the routings and cables, I tried plugging the same cable into my trusty ol' 57. Tons of signal! I spotted something in the manual about the NT1-A requiring phantom power of P48Volts or P24Volts. I plugged the Rode back in, and punched the little red button on the 001 that says "48V" --- the red light came on, and I ended up getting a tiny, tiny signal; barely registering, but there. That was the best I could get. I called the music store back --- the salesguy had left already. I explained the problem, and they said I was doing everything right, and to bring it back so they could check it out. Does anybody have any idea what could possibly be happening? Needless to say, I'm more than a bit disappointed. Sorry for the rambling post --- I'll probably just end up taking the mic back tomorrow. Thanks for listening...
Hi, Rail --- Thanx for writing. I first tried using a Monster Prolink cable (about 15 feet long). Then when that didn't work, I switched it with a Neutrik (maybe 20 feet). Afer I saw your post, I went and grabbed another brand new Neutrik (also around 20 feet) --- that didn't work either. I know these cables sound long --- but as mentioned, the SM57 worked just fine. Suggestions?

Tried to post this earlier, but it apparently didn't go through. Hi, Rail, and thanks for writing. I used a Monster Prolink Cable --- that didn't work. Switched it out with a Neutrik cable --- same story. After I saw you ask about the cable, I went a grabbed a brand-new Neutrik cable --- still barely any sound. All of these cables were in the fifteen-to-twenty foot length. I know this seems long, but as mentioned, I had no problem with the SM57. Thanks again for the help!
Oops, guess that post went through after all... Sadly, I don't have a volt meter, Rail --- and I've never had to engage the phantom power on my 001 in the three+ years I've had it, so I can't say for sure if it's functioning or not. Thanks again for the help, though. I'm running out of things to try, I'm afraid

Thanks for all the info, Mr. J. --- that was very, very informative. I just tried doing the warm-up thing with the phantom power, but it didn't seem to make a difference. If this can all be fixed with a forty-dollar interface, I'd be very happy. Thank you again for the help... --- Billy
If he had "tons of signal" with a 57.. he should have more signal with the Rode... doesn't sound like the pad switch is in or the 57 would be low gain as well. Rail
