Hi- You're PAL, aren't you, sklaus? See if this thread (and the other thread to which snowbeach links) relates to your problem:

Hi manono Thx for your reply. Yes, my DVD's PAL. I don't think that your link solves my problem because snowbeach had only problems to make the subtitles look right. In my case I do not know where to find and from where to rip them on the DVD. klaus

Hi- According to snowbeach, it's a 2 step process to get the PAL Forced subs to show up. One is to edit one line in the .idx to read: # Original frame size size: 720x576 And the other is to edit another line to read: # Language index in use langidx: 1 That one says that the Forced subs are a part of the regular substream, and not in their own separate substream. I only have an old version of DVD2SVCD installed at the moment, so I don't know if Forced subs are allowed now. But one way around that is to go ahead and choose the subs for your language, and then in the Frameserver Tab, to select "Edit As Part Of Video Encoding". Then when DVD2SVCD pauses to show you the .avs, open the .idx file and make those 2 changes. Then open that .avs in VDubMod (or NanDub) to confirm that the regular subs are gone and that only the Forced Elvish subs remain, at a proper height. Then tell DVD2SVCD to continue. I think that will work. But if I've messed up any of the steps, or there's some other way to do it in DVD2SVCD, then please set me straight, Nick or r6d2 or anyone else.

Hello I use version 1.2.1. I just wanted to try your suggestion but I could neither find an idx file in the dvd2svcd programm directory nor in the working directory. Regards Klaus

Hi- To test this I installed v. 1.2.1.b3 from 10/11/2003. First I apologize. I forgot that DVD2SVCD didn't use VobSub (which makes the idx and sub files), so there is no idx file to edit. So I took out my copy of R1 NTSC LOTR: TTT: EE, and ran it through DVD2SVCD. I couldn't find any Forced Elvish subs on the first of the 2 discs (I don't know about R2, but for R1, the movie is divided among 2 DVDs). Maybe there are some, but I couldn't find them. So I ripped the 2nd DVD and there they were. In the Subtitle Tab I picked my language (English in my case) and checked "Forced", and I got the Elvish and only the Elvish subs. In the Frameserver Tab I ticked "Edit as part of video encoding", and after the audio processing, and just before the video encoding started I was shown the .avs. I opened that in VDubMod, and scrolled around a bit to confirm that the Elvish subs were really there. That should work for you. But if it doesn't for some reason, you can get them into the movie by using VobSub, and adding the VSFilter and the idx into the .avs. If checking the Forced Subs doesn't work, then come back and I can teach you how to get the subs into the movie by using VobSub. It's real easy. But that shouldn't be necessary. Good Luck.
