If there's no price difference go for the ones made in japan.

tdks are a bit hard to find at a cheap price. but best buy sells 25-pks for $50 (made in taiwan) the 15-pks (made in japan) are from circuit city and are around $40.

yeah, i was pleasantly surprised when i went to best buy and saw the prices for tdks. the one near me doesnt carry much, only tdk, fuji and some no-name brand. fuji is a bit cheaper but considering fuji = ritek, tdk is the way to go. i store all my dvds in jewel cases in a box so hopefully if theyre all on tdks they should last for many years
In regard to the TDKs DVD-R 2x, I have purchased about 60 of them from Micro Center recently. They are individual DVD-R discs packaged in a set of five. Funny thing is that when using DVD Decrypter approximately half are TDK the others are Ritek G04s. Even in the same set of five the manufacturers are different. Go figure.

Good lord that is scary. So basically all these guys are just oeming it from Ritek??? sheesh! Well on the plus side, that means they're good disks...but on the negative side it means you're paying a premium for no reason. I'd still stick with TDK or even SONY. Any of you guys tried SONY disks ? A friend of mine bought me a 5 pack, and so far they seem to be pretty good. DVD Decryptor reports their manufacturer ID as being SONY, not Ritek or some other company.
Just used the 1st of a batch of 40 jeweled case 1-4X TDK +R and its manu code is RICOHJPNR0, I had a batch of 50 Riteks which all had the same code, they were pretty good but im paying twice as much for these (dye colour dark blue/purple) The Maxells I had were MCC The Verbatems (cake) were GMC (real crap) The latest 2x-r riteks i bought are G03s and have the lowest error rate of all the disks I have used so far, got them here
Just my .02$ my last 100 DVD-R 's have been RITEKG03's and I haven't have a bad burn yet with them and they have really low error rates. I also bought some TDK's from Target they worked well decent burns with all 10 but error rates were worse than my RITEK's so I'll be stickin to my G03's for a while :-)
FWIW, the TDK 4X DVD+R, made by RICOHJPNR0, has a perfect track record for 8X burns on Plextor 708A. The same Plextor is burning the TDK 2X DVD-R, from MicroCenter, at 4X speed. TDK + Plextor 708A = Double Speed Burn Bliss! Also, on the 1st of every month, MicroCenter has regularly had a special on TDK 5-packs. The last two months it was DVD-R, but they were selling the DVD+Rs with 5 units packs at $5.95 back in October. MicroCenter has the best TDK sale prices around. They must have a great distribution deal with them.
