Hi I have recorded a track and as you can see from the image the driver is operating on 44100Hz. In my project settings it is set to use 44100Hz. However I still get the RESAMPLED exclamation mark - what is going on here?

Click the check box next to 44100 in the properties.

There is no default per se. It is up to your audio (ASIO, I assume) driver. If you change it from some other software, it changes in Reaper too (at least my Echo Audio's ASIO works like that). Some times it can be strange if you use some other software at the same time with Reaper running and that other software uses different samplerate but same audio driver (for example mediaplayer that plays 48k video). This can change the samplerate temporarily. In that case you have to close that other software and reset the samplerate from ASIO panel in Reaper. It isn't Reaper but your ASIO settings that rule at which samplerate you are listening your output. There should be option with your interface to lock it to certain rate, like 44.1kHz for example. But just remember that in this case those 48k videos won't play right with your mediaplayer. To put it simply, Reaper can only manage at which samplerate you record and have your project but the playback is always controlled by your audio driver. You can control it from Reaper but it can't forcefully change it automatically.

Ok but I still do not quite understand what is going on here. I have the ASIO driver set to use 44100 as per the screen shot but still I get the message that the wav file is RESAMPLED?

I opened up the wav file in a wav editor and it is in fact 44100 24 bit. This then looks more like a bug in Reaper showing the exclamation mark??

Your .wav file is 24bit, your project is 16bit, therefore... *re-sampling*!?! ;)

I really don't think that bit depth has anything to do with this. If you go to Preferences/Audio/Device there should be this "ASIO configuration" button and also "Request sample rate" checkbox and another field for samplerate. First of all, is that box unchecked? And if it isn't, is the value in that field 44100? If you press that configuration button you should go to ASIO panel of your interface... did you check your rate from here? You probably did this already but I just checked. Also do you have some other software like media player running at the same time?

My interface is Line 6 Toneport UX2. I also do not quite understand why it says inactive and no client.. However it seems to be operating in 44100/24.
