so I deserve my first +1! with the "bypass" idea & extension to repear presets so that it'll offer preset automation with ANY fx

You can do that via the ReaControl plugin or any plugin that can generate a program change message. Insert it in front of the plug you want to control (or on a track sending the MIDI) and automate / learn the 'Program' parameter ;). EDIT: ++1 on making the Reaper preset list assignable to a MIDI parameter as well.

I was initially excited about this feature but then realised the Cockos plugins don't support vst presets. If this could be addressed it would make this feature much more useable. Also Reaper presets responding to program changes would be even more versatile.
