Superior Drummer question

Guys, if I insert SD 2.0 on a new track and choose NOT to add multiple tracks when doing so (but instead inserting SD on just a stereo track), is there any way of creating empty tracks later and routing each drum to it for processing via my non-Toontrack FX? Hope I'm making sense. Here's the dialog box that I click "NO" on... And so here's what I end up with...(track 1 is Superior Drummer)

Sure. You just have to do the routing manually. Create a send from the main drum track to an empty track and send the pairs out, like 3/4, 5/6, etc, out to other tracks. The main track will need to have it's internal channels set for what you need though, like 16 (8 stereo) or similar. Not sure what daw you used previously but Reaper handles this markedly different from all other methods and nothing from elsewhere will apply. If you tell (for example) a VSTI to open up 16 discreet audio outs into Reaper, it sends all 16 of those outs to the same track where the instrument is loaded... so it's a bit more work if you do it manually. You'd have to break them out from there with sends to physically split them up.

Honestly, if I were you I would remove the SD from the original track, glue all the MIDI pieces together, use the right-click menu to insert a new track with a new instance of SD, have Reaper create all the new tracks, and move the MIDI to the new track, and proceed mixing. It would probably be faster and easier than fooling with the routing yourself.

If he's going to do that, let it auto route all of the outputs later on like it tried to do on load, he can fire that again from the FX window without unloading / reloading the instrument. Right click "Build multichannel routing..." yada, yada.

Please explain.

yeah you can have a drums folder with two subfolders Midi and Audio, In the Midi folder you can have a main midi track (MidiAll) that has superior drummer on it. Below that you can have a track for each drum. Using the vdrums plugin () you can have it on each midi track as an fx and have it only let the appropriate notes and control changes (CC4 for hihat) through. Now each midi track will record only the notes for each drum. Then, create a send from each midi track to MidiAll and this way you can feed superior drummer all the midi data (disable midi in on MidiAll so you dont get dups). Then in Superior Drummer you create the multi track output and create mic tracks in the Audio subfolder In the Audio mic tracks you can add limiters, ride automation and such. So with each drum on a separate it makes it easy to edit and with each audio track in reaper you can easily control them without going to superior. Set all faders in superior to 0db and adjust bleeds to taste. I'll get some screenshots for tomorrow.

here are 3 screenshots, the first is the JS vdrums plugin and the notes I am letting through to the Midi hi hat track 10. Similar ones are on all the midi channels. The main midi channel 7 has superior on it and receives sends from the midi child tracks and has it's own input disabled. Then the outputs from superior are put on separate tracks (notice the pans too) and input to the Audio folder where I can limit / compress / automate volumes etc on the audio even before recording it. You can make all your edits on the individual midi tracks and record Audio or not. Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.
