Hello, working out of a studio w/ a 002r. I've worked with 002's before and never experienced this bad of latency problems. I'm running a 002 off a macbook pro core 2 duo w/ a glyph gt050 drive. I get atleast 15 - 25 ms of latency coming off the mic(nuemann tlm103) through the avalon 737 into PTLE7.3.1. This is with one or two tracks and maybe 3 plugins! The only way to fix for the monitoring is w/ the low latency option , which completley remedies that side of the problem, but then when you playback after you've recorded the delay is still there! (hence its recording at the wrong speed) I've never had to use the low latency option even on an LE system unless I've loaded up on plugs or something, On this system theres 15-25ms of latency right off the bat(1st track). I've got the H/W buffer running at almost nothing so computer power is ot an issue(core 2 duo w/ 2gigs). The playback buffer will even run at 0! I also already tried deleting the databases from all drives as well as installing all of the CS Updates. The computer is running 10.4.8 OSX. Also, one fix around that worked 1 time was to record onto the laptops harddrive. It only worked once and now I have the same problem there as well. Also, I am importing sounds and applying SRC where needed so that is not the problem I've almost finished my operators certification (only the 210m test left to take) .. so I'm not completley clueless with LE systems but I know from working on previous 002's that this is not right! I'm supposed to be composing and arrangign for a client from 6-10 but I came in here early to check things out and this thing is screwed! Ontop of that, the damn studio owners tech support expired like a month ago. Any help that leads to the fix of this problem would be greatly appriceated and repayed in any way! Thanks - Brandon Roland

If your machine will tolerate a buffer setting of 128 samples, around 3 ms at 44100, you likely won't need to use low latency monitoring. Since you mentioned a buffer seeting of zero, I don't know why you would have any latency. I didn't think that it could be set to zero. I'm also not sure what you mean when you say it plays back with a delay and "it's recording at the wrong speed." Is the track delayed or it is actually playing back to fast or too slow? Playing at the wrong speed sounds like a clocking issue.
Thanks for the reply.. sorry for the confusion due to my terminology. when I said buffer set to zero I meant DAE Playback Buffer. I can bring the machine all the way down to 128 samples for the H/W Buffer but I've been recording at 48k. I've done this many times on a G5 in my personal studio w/ no problems what so ever but I will try reducing the sample rate to 44.1 and seeing how that works out. When I meant speed, sorry I meant the timeline was off. In other words, even though Low Latency monitoring allows me to monitor the input in correct time, after recording, the track plays back offset(delayed) just as if I was to monitor without the low latency option. I could nudge samples to correct the problem but that will be much more work than anticipated once the session begins to build. I also preffer not to go that route anyways. The machine is a macbook pro intel core 2 duo 2.16 . 2gigs of ram. Like I said I can bring the H/W buffer down to 128 and the playback to level 0 and have no problems playing back and monitoring the tracks except the delay! also.. the clock is set to internal.. I could try clocking to an external piece of gear through spdif and see if that fixes the problem. I'm wondering if this could be a problem with my drive?! Thanks again! - BR
just to eliminate some things, do you have any plugins on the monitoring tracks that are causing a delay? If there are some it would cause you to hear the mix late and therefore you would be playing later than what is actually recorded.
Twix: Thanks for your reply but no there are no plugins. However even if there were plugins unless it was some sort of time based effect I still should not hear a delay in one track compared to another track (ie: the vocal not playing back correctly with the music). Thanks, - BR
At 48kHz, 128 samples is only like 2.6ms of latency. During playback, do you have plug ins across that track's insert? If so, have you checked to see if they are adding latency and how much? Since you just mentioned no plug ins, something seems very wrong. Call Digi.
grindx gracias senor! 44.1 did the trick but this is really weird.. I get no audible delay at any H/W Buffer size w/ NO Low Latency Monitoring at 44.1 BUT at 48 I get delay from 128 all the way up to 1024 or 48 or whatever the hell it is. Thank you though grindx your suggestion worked.
