Hi, I have recently been working on a 5.1 surround project which was submitted to University of Wales Trinity St. David as part of a Masters degree. The project was entitled "Sentient Shift: Electroacoustic music for 5.1 Surround Sound". I have uploaded a stereo down-mix of the final piece to my Soundcloud which, can be found here: This project was produced entirely using Reaper and some other software/plugins, such as GRM Tools, Pure Data and Reaktor. A Wordpress page giving a more detailed overview of the project can be found here: Also, this piece is best heard in surround, and in parts, makes full use of the .1 in 5.1. There is a link to download a DVD disk image containing the 5.1 surround mix here: Hopefully a few people may find this interesting. Feel free to add me up on Soundcloud, always good to connect with fellow Reaper users. Nice. Lloyd.

Great job - what was your setup? How did you mix to the different channels?

cool Lloyd. takes me back! i used grm tools & audiomulch for electroacoustic nonsense back there in 2001 ( at rwcmd ) this actually seems q reminiscent of my old stuff. (pitchy/ with granular fx etc. I approve :) edit: ahh i think my old tutor S Kilshaw is now at Uwtsd? he got me onto grm and audiomulch, maybe still an influence... i know folk think this type of music is a bit pointless but with some years past i do believe it teaches your ears a great deal whatever music you subsequently make. i love a good listen to those old electroacoustic extravaganzas, proper listening exercises.

Hi, Cheers for the responses, haven't been on here in a while so just noticed. @peter5992 "what was your setup? How did you mix to the different channels?" the set up was mainly Reaper obviously, did some sound design in P.D. to try and make swarming sound using 'Boids' flocking algorithm. Mixed a lot of concrete sounds with synth sounds (massive) in creating the sonic landscapes and used GRM tools, reapitch and alchemy to basically mash up sounds. Mixed in reaper, did a lot of panning using Rea-surround which is very adaptable to different speaker set-ups. Mixed in the studio on a bunch of Mackies, sub of which was cracking. @BenK-msx: yes Kilshaw is one of the lecturers at UWTSD now. He introduced us to all this electroacoustic and music concrete stuff. Some good concepts there, very useful, good infuence. At first its a bit weird like WTF, but then it starts to make a lot of sense, it really expands the way you think about sound. Audiomulch, GRM, Pure Data, Sound Grain and loads more are the kinda things we've been looking at. Are you still involved with audio since your time at rwcmd? Do you have any stuff online? @bluetinstar: cheers Fred, the masters did end well, I passed it well. Spending some time doing bits of freelance audio work now (though hard to come by at times) and searching hard to try to get some kind of permanent audio related position soon. I might chuck some more stuff up soon when some newer projects are done. Regards, Lloyd.
