Thanks Ollie, will try those. Another funny fact: after updating to the latest Reaper-version I still get the sound errors and the slowly responding graphical interface, but I no longer get ANY bad latency readings in Latence Checker. Now, just how weird is this shit?
With that other latency measure-app I still get no reported latency issues after installing Reaper 4. is what it gives me. This screenshot was done after the sound problem occured, before that the max value of Kernel timer latency was at around 250. Hard pagefault was pretty much instantly at the max level, so it was also like that while everything was running totally ok. Reaper still uses 98% of the CPU every 3rd or 4th minute and makes the sound crackle during that period. Does the above picture indicate anything to experts on the field? I'm wondering if this could in any way be related to GFX card drivers?
Do you have on-board graphics card that you can use instead of the nVidia? If so, try taking the nVidia card out and see if that improves things. They have been known to obstruct...

Do you have another ASIO compatible host software to test what happens with that? IOW did that computer ever run low latency audio software before? PCI cards are pretty demanding regarding a free INT line on the bus (in their days there was only one PCI slot meeting this specs on most mainboards) and many new-ish mainboards with 1-2 standard PCI slots don't meet that standard and they're often only attached via another peripheral bus or something, sharing resources with other things... so yes if DPCs are not related to this at all, there's still tons of other trouble sources.
Yeah, I have an UX-1 from Line 6 (USB-connected) that brings some ASIO aswell, and when I use that it does the same. The stuttering is not as harsh, though, so there is a difference. I do have another GFX card, and I guess I'm going to have to try that out. It does seem strange that that could be the cause though, as the system has worked just fine with the exact same hardware in Windows Vista. I was more thinking drivers - maybe roll back my GFX driver. I just found some network settings in my Nvidia control panel, wonder if they could interfere somehow? I am unsure which power settings I should look for in the BIOS. Also, I wonder why Reaper would more or less randomly suddenly use 98% of the CPU for 20 seconds now and then. Can that really be powerrelated? Is there any way to see which VSTs uses a lot of CPU?

Thanks for all the replies and helpfull ideas. I've done the rough thing now, removed all VST plugins and building up again. I'll be back with a result. Maybe it is a VST issue afterall, have added a few plugins already and the problem has not been there so far. If it is indeed a problem with VSTs, would it not have impact ALL the time if it was the AMOUNT of VSTs used? If so, my bad :(
Hey influenced. I'm using driver version 6.0.1.1244, they're from 20-03-2008 according to my device manager. I've just tried changing the bit depth to 24 in Control Panel / Sound / Properties / Advanced, but I can't test it untill tomorrow. I tried adding VST's this evening, one at a time. Eventually it would start fucking up again. I'm unsure if it's the amount of VST's I use (none of them were VSTi's so they shouldn't be that heavy, right?). Everything was fine untill I added Antaras Autotune to a few tracks (like I wrote above, I'm not sure if Autotune caused it, or if it was just the VST to tip the iceberg). After that, even after removing Autotune again, the graphical interface would go non-responsive for longer periods and the sound problem would be back. The thing that really makes me ponder, is that even when not playing there will be visual "lag/freeze". That makes no sense to me, to be honest. Surely, the VST's are not using CPU while not being used? In my project I've got the following: 1 EZdrummer main midi track 8 send to tracks from EZ-drummer with sidetrack compresser and ReaEQ on them 2 Main vocal tracks with sidechain compressor and ReaEQ on them 4 choir tracks with sidechain compressor and ReaEQ on them 4 guitar-tracks with sidechain compressor and ReaEQ on them 3 bass-tracks with sidechain compressor, EZMix and ReaEQ on them 4 synth tracks all rendered as stem mono tracks with sidechain compressor and ReaEQ on them 1 Manually recorded tambourine audio track with EZmix on it A lot of these tracks are sending to the following channels: 1. Pseudostereo 2. Pod Farm Reverbs with low gain ReaEQ 3. Pod Farm Reverbs with high gain ReaEQ 4. Pod Farm Chorus 5. Pod Farm Delay I'm using a plugin called VST Roommachine on a few of the vocal tracks and the Kick-drum and there's a lot of sending to the channels mentioned above, but I really think my system should be able to handle this. The RAM is never overloaded, only the CPU goes to 100% every 2-3 minutes, and there's no big VSTi's loaded at all - and still I get these problems. I just don't get it, and it's making me mad - mad, I tell you!! Again, thanks for all of the input.
Just shooting in the dark here, but do you have Autosave enabled in Reaper? If so, what is the save frequency, and are you also telling it to save the undo state?
Quite, This post may sound a little out in left field but... Recently I had problems with what sounds like a similar error (the 'kernal power' thing). Do you leave your UX1 plugged in? I use a UX2 and used to leave it 'plugged in'. I stopped leaving the UX2 plugged in... no more error message! WTF!! I have no idea why. I'm wondering if M$ screwed up something with a windows update (pure speculation). I hope this helps.
I have a Emu 1212. Sometimes the sound become scratchy and glitchy. I just open the device in the preferences and uncheck/check the sample rate box and it comes back fine. I have the feel that it kind of lost its communication with reaper.
